This sample outline includes teacher notes (be sure to view in markup mode) that explains each aspect of the outline. It is ideal for students doing a research paper for first time, or as a scaffolding tool to guide students researching on their own. It includes information about topics and subtopics, MLA format and bullets/numbering. I use this outline with younger students researching endangered animals as well as with older students researching more abstract historical or modern topics. Because the sample topic is about the sea otter's endangerment, it would also work well as a cross-curricular aide to Science class writing assignments.
