When I complete a career unit with my students we complete a career portfolio for a future career that they think they may want to pursue. I start by having students complete personality tests or leadership style quizzes, these help give students strong words to use when describing themselves. Then, I have students complete the career research worksheet for at least two career that they think they would like to pursue. After they complete the research on these careers, I ask them to narrow down to one career that they would like to work with for the rest of the unit. Once students decide on a career I have them to locate a resume online for the career they would like to go into. I give students this worksheet to ensure they will find a resume with all of the parts they will be required to create in their own resume. In the directions on this sheet students are informed that they must find a resume with a sample of each section that is listed on the worksheet. With this sample, students have a relevant guide to the career they would like to pursue, and something that will be useful when they need help on their own resumes.
This worksheet comes with a rubric that can be used for grading.
