Students discover samples, population and census through a survey of their birthday month. Students create a bar graph by placing a sticky note above their birthday month on the board.
Students will create a tally chart, dot plot and bar graph of this data on their handout. Students will also calculate the percent of each month as well as the total population (I just make up data for the population).Students compare the the percents to determine if the sample is a representation.
Students will answer a list of questions from the task. There is also slotted notes on the vocabulary. At the end of the handout is situations for students to decide if the sample was biased or not.
