After reading Sandra Cisneros's A House on Mango Street (all or some), students will review the following terms:
Students then choose one vignette to illustrate (PowerPoint presentation, a painting, a collage, a drawing, etc.), concentrating on the symbolism and figurative language present in the chapter.
Once the students have completed their illustrations, they will then write a one page explanation to accompany the illustration. The writing will identify the symbols and figures used in the chapter, as well as how these and other textual evidence support the theme of Esperanza’s self-discovery and coming of age.
Rubric is included. Works well with peer review as well.
