Product Description
Help your students visualize the beauty of wildflowers. In Chapter 4 of Sarah, Plain and Tall, Sarah decides to pick wildflowers. Throughout the chapter, readers are introduced to a wide variety of wildflowers found on the prairie. This PowerPoint presentation illustrates those flowers mentioned in the chapter, and throughout the novel.

Before reading Chapter 4, we view the PowerPoint to appreciate the colorful wildflowers, and become familiar with each flower’s name. At some time after reading Chapter 4, we take a break from reading, and each student creates their own wildflower sketch. It might be a prairie landscape, or simply a wildflower vase. Check out the preview for a sample of a student's sketch!

The second PowerPoint was created to inspire our young artists. Included are samples of sketches created by students of all ability levels. These sketches have always been used to create a beautiful classroom, hallway, or bulletin board display.

NOTE: This PowerPoint is set to “loop” so that the wildflower photographs can be projected easily, and continually made available to students throughout their sketching session. It can, obviously, be adjusted to meet your own needs. Both PowerPoints are also provided in .pdf format.

Flowers included in this presentation are:

• woolly ragwort
• blue-eyed grass
• wild asters
• wild roses
• prairie clover
• goldenrod
• prairie violets
• columbines
• blue flax
• daisies
• Indian paintbrush

Have your students explore and visualize the prairie by creating beautiful, vibrant wildflower meadows, gardens, bouquets, or vases. Make them as detailed or abstract as you prefer! You’ll be surprised by the amount of artistic talent hiding in your classroom!

For those students who prefer to simply color wildflower coloring pages, 8 wildflower coloring pages are also included. Some of the flowers on the coloring pages are mentioned in the book, while others aren't. I simply explain that not every wildflower on the prairie is mentioned in the text. This makes for a nice center activity. Display the finished projects around your room to create a beautiful prairie-like atmosphere when reading about Sarah, Papa, Anna, and Caleb!
