Product Description
Sarah, Plain and Tall by Patricia MacLachlan
Sarah, Plain and Tall Teaching Guide
This forty-four page resource for teaching Patricia MacLachlan's 1986 Newbery Winner has eight different components.

Sarah, Plain and Tall Chapter Summaries
(1)The CHAPTER SUMMARIES, written in bulleted format for easy reference, provide a quick method for becoming familiar with the material when time is limited and for refreshing memory when using the novel from year to year. They also provide a convenient way for locating specific story events or characters.

Sarah, Plain and Tall Prereading Activities
(2) The PREREADING ACTIVITIES include a graphic organizer, discussion and research topics, and a bulletin board idea.

Sarah, Plain and Tall Vocabulary Study
(3)In the VOCABULARY section are word lists with definitions and printable dictionary activities and usage worksheets.

Sarah, Plain and Tall Short Answer Questions
(4)The chapter-by-chapter SHORT ANSWER QUESTIONS can be put to use in a variety of ways including homework reading guides. The questions require detailed, FACTUAL responses. These pages can function as review prompts to prepare students for tests.

Sarah, Plain and Tall Objective Tests
(5)The series of OBJECTIVE TESTS (multiple choice, true/false, yes/no) cover the novel as chapter-by-chapter quizzes and as a whole book test. They do not require story interpretation nor do they address elements of literature. They do check for basic story comprehension.

Students will find it necessary to read the material carefully and thoroughly for FACTUAL CONTENT in order to score well on these tests. The goal of this component is to build a strong foundation for progression to the higher level thinking skills.

The pages can also be put to use as whole-class discussion guides, small-group or independent reading guides, homework, and conferencing tools. Some teachers also use them for close reading instruction.

Sarah, Plain and Tall Thinking Skills
(6)The activities in THINK, WRITE, CREATE, both chapter-by-chapter and whole book, require
students to engage the HIGHER LEVEL THINKING SKILLS of Bloom's Taxonomy.

These open-ended activities cover a range of difficulties from the most basic to challenges for gifted students. The items are designed to spark divergent, creative, and speculative thinking, build vocabulary, inspire research, and encourage student interaction with the story and its characters.

Sarah, Plain and Tall Graphic Organizers for Writing
(7)The GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS are based on specific novel events or characters rather than a standard design. Each one offers opportunities for practicing and improving writing skills.

Sarah, Plain and Tall Answer Keys
(8)Full ANSWER KEYS for those items requiring a specific response are included.
