Very versatile, comprehensive text-dependent question packet for Sarah, Plain and Tall by Patricia MacLachlan (Guided Reading Level R).
Questions are arranged per chapter of the novel (there are 9 chapters, with 5 multiple choice and 1 constructed response short answer question per chapter for a total of 54 questions, plus one extended response essay for the whole novel) and are designed in a progression of difficulty per chapter. (Chapter 8 questions are no harder than Chapter 1, but question 1 on each chapter is easier than question 5 on each chapter).
Questions could used in small groups, as reading responses, whole class discussion, summative assessment - whatever the teacher's choice. Use this however it is helpful to you in your teaching.
Questions can be used to teach strategies of identifying question types and how to answer these specific types (i.e. vocabulary building, inferencing, summarizing)
A combination of multiple choice and short constructed response questions are provided for each of the 9 chapters, with an extended response essay question given at the end for the book as a whole.
This packet was created as a means of Common Core test prep for third graders in New York State and the format and wording is very similar to the standardized test.
