This is a quick and fun way for your students to continue practicing the vocabulary words from the novel Sarah, Plain and Tall by Patricia MacLachlan.
For this game, you will need to divide your class into two teams. Once you have your two teams, a student from each team will come to the board. You will read a loud one the definitions from a vocabulary word on your list. Once you are finished reading the definition, the student who spots the correct word and smacks it first wins that round, earning a point for their team. You can use two fly-swatters or two rulers depending on your preference. If a student smacks the wrong word, they have to wait for the other student to try and guess the word before being allowed to try again.
