This step-by-step lesson asks students to create a written prologue using the elements of satire; it must describe groups of people around their school, in the same satirical style used by Chaucer in The Canterbury Tales. They must write about six groups of people. This bundle includes a specific directions sheet with pre-writing organizational instructions, a detailed writing outline sheet, and a guided peer review sheet. The directions sheet and the peer review have two sheets per page in order to minimize photocopies. Note: the instructions handout includes a warning about how insulting individual people, rather than groups, will affect grades negatively. I always found it helpful to also have a discussion about how every group has its faults, and how that's ok; we need to accept those faults if we are ever going to make changes in life. These always turned out amazingly well, and the kids have a blast writing them.
