Build a savanna—right in your own classroom—using butcher paper, construction paper, cutouts (included) and silk plants. Then stock your “savanna” with reading materials, games, and manipulatives that your students can use to explore this amazing biome. Classroom volunteers can help you create artifacts with which your students can interact, independently, in small groups, or with a parent volunteer, now and for years to come. There is a lot of preparation required at first, but once it’s done—it’s done! The materials can also be used to teach a variety of common core language arts and research skills. Items included are

Overview of the materials, suggestions, and a list of Common Core skills which are supported by these materials.

Newsletter you can send home 1-2 months before starting the unit to solicit help from classroom volunteers in printing and making the items, and to help you gather materials and resources for your museum.
