Say It and Spray It splash mats are a fun and exciting way for students to learn to decode color words. This wet and wild adventure will have your students motivated to learn how to recognize new color words through water play. This Developing level set is scaffolded with gray scale pictures to support learners who are familiar with color words but need a few visual prompts to assist with word recognition. Other differentiated splash mats are available in my store, for teachers seeking additional challenges for their students who are at the Beginning or Advanced levels of color word recognition. My students especially love partner splash! On a nice hot day, having splash mats that are challenging for all levels of students in your classroom is a rewarding game for all!
Preparation – Print and laminate all Color Word identification splash mats. Post splash mats outside low on walls, trees, etc... Fill spray bottle with water.
Activity 1 – Students run to each poster and read the color word. If they correctly identify the color word, they spray the splash mat with water.
Activity 2 – Partner splash. Working in pairs, students take turns reading each new word. If the reader is correct. The reader sprays his partner. If the reader is incorrect, the partner sprays the reader.
