Product Description
These scaffolded (or differentiated) informational/expository writing learning progressions are adapted from Teacher's College (TC), and altered to support lower-level readers, and newcomer/beginner-level English language learners.

Each informational writing skill (listed below) has 3 levels/strands of progressions, labeled with 1, 2, and 3 asterisks.

These scaffolded/differentiated learning progressions can be used as rubrics, self-assessments, peer-assessments, student- lead or teacher-lead checks-for-understanding, smart goals, and much more! These learning progressions were created to provide an entry point to the skills being taught in the TC curriculum, for beginning-level English language learners, but can be used with any student who may benefit from this differentiated support!

Each strand consists of simplified "I can" statements that align to the Common Core Learning Anchor Standards, illustrations adapted from TC, and check-boxes so that students can self-assess, or so that teachers can use it to assess student work, and check off each completed activity.

The strands are purposely designed to have general language, not specific to one modality. For example, the lowest strand in "Lead" may state, "I can talk, draw, or write about a topic that I know a lot about." I purposely used the words "talk, draw, or write about a topic," so that the student can explain/identify his/her informational topic however he/she is capable of doing so (drawing illustrations, writing, speaking, etc), and so that the teacher can assess student capabilities and strengths accordingly.

Please keep in mind that these rubrics/learning progressions are intended to be used with students who are below the mark for grade-level academic and/or English proficiency. Once students are able to successfully complete all strands on the learning progression, they are ready to move to the regular grade-level TC rubrics/learning progressions!

Please leave fair and constructive feedback, so that I can improve my products to best support you and your students!
