This Gallery Walk is very exciting because it involves multiple skills and helps the students understand the real-world applications of scale. There are 10 stations in the gallery walk and each has a geometric shape and the scale factor. The students must use a ruler to measure each side then calculate the corresponding side of the new shape using the scale factor provided. They then need to use their ruler to create the new shape using the dimensions that they calculated.
This can also be set up as stations, with the students drawing their new shape directly onto the old shape. This will save paper and may be easier depending on your classroom set up.
The answer key included provides both the original dimensions of each shape and the dimensions of the new shape.
