How big is our solar system? Well... it could be as big as your classroom!
This project has students create a scaled version of the solar system within your classroom. The planets are placed by distances. However, the actual planets are also scaled based on a list of choices. For example: maybe the student chooses to scale the planets (and other objects in the solar system) by density. The higher the density, the larger the planet! It is a really neat way of observing the different properties of the planets. I do suggest that the models of the planets be no larger than 30 cm in diameter.
It includes a rubric for grading the project, "webquest" questions, and a reflection.
