I created this activity and have used this on my 7th graders for an application to use ratios in scaling. You can change the picture on the grid to any picture you like (the one on the document is a pumpkin for a Halloween theme). Assign each student a specific square from the grid. Measure the side of the big square on the first paper and measure the assigned smaller square from the grid. Have the students identify the scale factor they should have when attempting to redraw their square. After students have attempted to redraw their square in a "larger view" follow the directions on the second page. The students need to pick two points from their assigned small square and measure then compare through a ratio if their actual drawing was accurate by measuring the same two points on the enlarged square.
All directions necessary are stated on the handouts.
