Product Description
I love doing glyphs but I always try to tie an academic component to go along with it. I think that learning how to compare & contrast is the perfect strategy to learn after making glyphs. Kids LOVE glyphs (that's what my daughter remembers most from third grade and she's 16 now).... so when you tie something like comparing and contrasting in with something SO FUN for them.....the learning part comes easy to them.

A little about comparing and contrasting.....a few years ago, I graded the third grade reading testing for the state. It was grueling, but I learned so much and this compare and contrast format was what stuck with me the most. The state was really picky how it was worded. For example if the child put: They eat hot lunch most of the time. The state would not allow us to give points because of the “they”…..the state wanted to know who and they really wanted the word BOTH in the comparing questions and BUT or WHEREAS (or some similar word) in the contrasting answers to show the student knew that comparing meant “the same” and contrasting meant “different”. So that’s why I give you the particular templates and teach students from day 1 to answer compare and contrast questions like this.

Back to the glyph.....this glyph, when put together, is an adorable scarecrow.. All the templates are included to put this glyph together according to the questions asked on the glyph plus a few extras if desired. This is a PERFECT FALL HALLWAY OR BULLETIN BOARD PROJECT TO HANG WITH THEIR COMPARE AND CONTRAST WRITING!

After everyone is finished, teacher randomly picks two glyphs, hangs them on the board, and models how to compare and contrast them.

After teacher is finished modeling, students get with a partner to compare and contrast their scarecrows using their writing templates, planning templates, and teacher modeling guides that are all organized and included in this product.

I hope these are as cute as can be, your students love putting together the glyph, and learn how to compare and contrast and the language to help do it correctly.

PLEASE VIEW THE PREVIEW and don't hesitate to email if you have any questions whatsoever!
