This mini-unit explores a variety of skills (including point of view, characterization, symbolism, and imagery) through James Hurst's "Scarlet Ibis." Included are daily lessons with 1-2 literary objective focus areas + related powerpoints.
Each lesson is almost "ready to use" (minimal 5-10 minute adaptation to remove logistics slides, etc).
Each lesson follows the format of: 1) Do Now (3-4 minutes, literary/grammar/test-prep skills) 2) Objective + 'college shout out' fun fact about college (2 min) 3) Brainstarter/"hook" activity 4) Guided reading with specific skill focus (example- identifying/explaining/analyzing images for Day I) + "during reading" skill/comprehension questions 5) Exit ticket (either extended written response OR multiple choice test-prep style questions)
The mini-unit includes 4 days of lessons + 1 day for "quiz-est" -- extended quiz with 10 question ACT-style data-trackable multiple choice questions + extended AP-style essay.
