This activity allows students to examine the text of chapters 1-2 of The Scarlet Letter for information about characterization, symbolism, and secret exchanges. Students travel through for stations that instruct them to examine chunks of the text for specific purposes. My students LOVE this activity and it really jump starts their understanding of the novel.
Note: I choose to tell my students who Dimmesdale is to Hester at the beginning of the novel. These stations reflect that knowledge.
