This is Scary Good Writing Tool 7: Movies of the Mind.
This lesson is where we start putting the other tools to work to create what scary good writers call “movies of the mind.” You have probably heard of the concept referred to as “showing and not telling.” This section explains how to write so that readers will see the action of the story happening right before their eyes. This tool is so important that students do three lessons that demonstrate how to know when you are showing your story through action and not telling it.
“Even students who are reluctant to write were inspired by the comical and clever way you introduce important lessons in the craft of writing. We look forward to continue learning with you and your incredibly funny characters (they LOVE Bonefish and Mr. Butterfield!) We'll be using Scary Good Writing after Florida Writes (poor kids keep asking, "When are we going to do Scary Good Writing?)" - Monique Desir, 4th grade, Frontier Elementary
