Eve Bunting delights us with a rhyming Halloween story packed with enriching vocabulary and Jan Brett's wonderfully detailed illustrations. In Scary, Scary Halloween a frightened family of cats is hiding under a porch watching the scary trick-or-treaters file by. You don't know until the end of the story that the eyes you have seen glowing belong to cats until they feel safe enough to make their appearance.
The skills covered in this unit:
* Writing of short fill-in the-blank poem
*Parts of Speech: Nouns, verbs, and adjectives
*Word families and rhyming words
*Cut and paste
Some of the cut and paste activities are designed so that the choices that are to be cut can be used as a word bank or answer choices. This allows you to not print the choice page or to cut off the choices so that students that are ready to write their answers without choices may do so. The choices may be kept for those students that need the word and answer choices to choose from, but then they can write their choices. Finally, for those students that need more support these worksheets can be used as a regular cut-and-paste activity where the student has answers to choose from and limits the amount of written work required of that child.
