This is a scavenger hunt that students can complete on various rules of exponents, square roots, and cube roots. I used this as a way of introducing some rules that they hadn't seen yet. I gave them three pages - "first steps", "second steps" and "answers". They take one of their problems and try to decide which "first step" might fit the problem. They must think logically to decide if any part of the first step they choose would fit into solving the problem.
For this activity, I printed several copies of each page and posted them around the room so the students wouldn't be crowded together. I also allowed them to work in pairs to solve.
