Do you have beginning readers on picture-based schedules?
In a quest to explicitly teach my students functional reading comprehension, I teach schedule word comprehension. Eventually, I want my students (if appropriate), to navigate their school day with word/text schedules. Moving from picture-based to solely word-based schedules is a step toward functional independence!!
How do I know if my students are ready for the jump?
That's where this product comes in!
In your classroom, pick a handful of the most salient schedule words and teach your students to read the word and match to the picture. This is a perfect center activity. Once students are consistently demonstrating comprehension, move their picture schedule piece to a text-only. Little by little, your students will be navigating their school day with word schedules!
BUT, don't worry - nothing is complete without data!
Included are 6 different data sheets and instructions on how to implement this in your classroom.
Lastly- I have added schedule PECs (picture and word based) that correspond with these pictures. It is important for our kids to have consistency! Check the preview for details.
