Help your students understand how schema works! As the teacher, bring in a box and fill it with things you have in your schema (I used dogs, college, snow, the redwood forest, driving a car, etc.). Try to use some things you know your students will have schema for, and others you know most will not. This helps them understand how people have schema for different things based on what they have experienced. Follow up with a worksheet where students can share what's in their own schema boxes!
