Turn my administrative team meeting into an engaging linear functions project! Names and data have been changed to protect the innocent.
In this 23 page PDF, you will be given a mapping to the Content Standards, an outline for how to implement the project, 4 different assignments for students to use, and an answer key.

-- In “Enrollment Projections” students will practice linear modeling and interpreting the rate of change of attendance data and use the information to evaluate a decision.
-- In “Allocations” students will use linear modeling and a hiring ratio from each school district to determine if more teachers will be needed or if current teachers will be laid off.
-- In “Redraw the Lines” students will use linear modeling of enrollment data and the percent capacity of a school building to determine if district overcrowding can be solved by redrawing attendance boundaries.
-- In “School Consolidation”. Students will roleplay as a superintendent. In a declining school district, an elementary, middle and high school will most likely be recommended for closure. Using linear models, percent capacity, the age of the buildings, the proximity to other schools and the school’s grade card students must analyze and make a recommendation to the Board of Education. This will culminate in a written report that will be submitted. If you’d like a couple paragraphs, you can ask for it. If you’d like to use the space for students to show work, go for it. Use it however you see fit.
