This activity is to introduce or review school materials vocabulary in Spanish. This is aligned to the Realidades 2 / Auténtico 2 Chapter 1A entitled "¿Qué haces en la escuela?" However, this could also be used in Spanish 1 or 2 for school materials vocabulary.
This activity utilizes an authentic text (infographic) to present vocabulary and corresponding prices for school materials in Bolivia. Students first complete a brainstorming/guessing activity about the cost of school materials. Then, students use the Internet to research actual school materials in the United States.
Next students use the infographic to fill out the price of school materials in Bolivia. A cross-curricular component with mathematics is then included, where students must convert Bolivianos (Bs) to U.S. Dollars (USD).
Lastly, students will make a cultural comparison between the United States and Bolivia. Students are introduced to/review how to make comparisons in Spanish using más/menos que.
