As we study ecosystems, I take my students outside to study our school yard ecosystem. As the students observe, they document the habitats of different organisms, explain examples of symbiotic relationships, identify biotic and abiotic factors, and draw a food web. It is a great way to have students apply what they have learned.
This activity is also great for a community garden or nearby park. Your download includes the student observation sheet and a rubric for evaluating student work.
