Product Description
20 writing prompts which help you use the PG rated film to teach writing skills. These assignments test students' knowledge of the film, their ability to see events from more than one viewpoint and their ability to write in different styles/formats.

Some tasks require students to imagine that they are characters in the film, and then to write in the voice of that character using an appropriate register and tone. Other activities ask students to research topics and present their findings as oral presentations (supported with a slideshow). Some writing activities are based on the complete text (review, email/letter, interview questions). Most activities are based on specific incidents in the film.

They are WRITING exercises, so they are also designed to improve student's abilities in different styles of writing. Styles include:
- Diary Entries
- Personal Letters / Note / email
- Formal Letters
- Dialogues / Scripts
- Presentation / Slideshow (including internet research)
- Review
- Interview Questions
- Creative Writing
- Newspaper Report
- Media (Advertisements)
- Memo including Rules / Instructions

Most assignments include hints, sub-headings or structure guides to provide a starting point or scaffolding to help students get started.

These high order tasks give students an opportunity to show a deep understanding of the plot, as well as to practice writing in different formats. Many of the activities could be used for summative assessment.

It's a Word document, so editable to suit your class. There are activities for each part of the film. The document is organised in this manner.

I like to incorporate the teaching of writing styles into our study of the film, using it as an "anchor" text for many different types of activities. Students are caught up in the story, and they don't see these high order activities as new (or difficult) learning topics.
