This problem solving bundle is designed to get kids thinking even if the weather is warm and the end of school is near!!! The problems aren’t obvious and will take some thinking and perseverance. There are a mix of operations and skills; multiplication, adding, subtracting, elapsed time and liquid measures.
The bundle is set up with 4 of the same on one page, to cut up and put in a math notebook. There are also 4 different problems on a page if you would prefer to hand out more than one problem at a time. Finally, each problem is on it’s own page with work space and an area for the kids to write about the problem and how they got their answer.
In my 3rd grade classroom we do these as a warm up before the mini lesson. Usually the kids glue them into their math notebook and work out the problem there. We work on one problem per day, so I prefer to use the page with four of the same problem on the same page. I cut them up and put one on each child's desk before math class. If I'm using it for an assessment and don't want to take home all the notebooks, I like to use the single page copy, so all their work is in one handy place.
