“I love these! Often, Science isn't the first thing teachers think of for "when you're done" work. I love how quick and easy this resource makes extra work for fast finishers!”
I always have students who finish early. We all do, right? No matter how many times I ask and beg and plead for them to slow down and double-check everything, those same students come up to me on a regular basis and say, “I’m done. What do I do next?” During Science time I want my students to be thinking about Science…the whole time.
SO, I created these TEN Early Finisher Science Activity Boards! The nine activities on each board reinforce and extend Science content covered in the upper elementary grades. That's a total of 90 SCIENCE TASKS to keep your early-finishers thinking about Science all year! These boards work across upper elementary grade levels and ability levels. Some tasks have literal answers while others ask students to draw their own conclusions; some require research and others, an artistic hand. As a result, every early-finisher in your class should be able to find an activity that s/he can work on independently without interruption to you or other students.
More good news?! These activities require little to no prep! Most of the time a piece of paper and pencil will do but access to library books, internet, simple household items, and measuring tools are necessary for some.
I allow my students to complete boxes in any order. I love giving students choice whenever possible! Sometimes I will mark “Must-Do” boxes on certain students’ papers or I’ll tell them they have to do three in a row. This gives my highest students a challenge within a challenge—and of course they eat it up! Win for me too, ‘cause differentiation, that’s why!
Once you set up a materials space and establish a routine for these Activity Boards, you will have more time to focus on students who are still working and need your help while the students who finish early are still thinking about Science--and always know what to do next!
Activity Boards cover the following topics and can be used in any order:
