Students will use the data collection worksheet to research an extinct species based on the list provided by the teacher. Students will then use the data to develop a concept map (graded based on the provided rubric), then write a narrative (graded based on the provided rubric), and a 3D Model of a cross section that has their species included as a fossil correctly imbedded during the time period the species would have become extinct (also graded on the provided rubric). If students will be completing the assignments in groups it is recommended that you purchase the peer review rubric and data collection worksheet located in my teachers store in order to create more effective student groupings (also makes for excellent data collection in your binders for teaching assessors). This is designed to be done cooperatively with the ELA teacher for your grade level but if this is not possible it is easy to remove the part where the students narratives are graded for grammar, sentence structure etc. by the ELA teacher.
