Inspire your students' creativity while examining the finer details of adaptations! This bundled set includes over 40 unique and realistically drawn animals from 8 different biomes to help your students identify structure and function using art, cut & paste, and critical thinking activities. Study biological evolution, unity and diversity in a new way. Great for a project, science center station, or review! Also a wonderful addition to the STEAM classroom. Bonus research worksheet included.
SAMPLE AVAILABLE IN PREVIEW FILES.
Students will first create a detailed grid drawing. This is a great technique for beginning artist to use, illustrating one box at a time rather than trying to draw an entire image at once. It also gives them an opportunity to focus on the unique structures of each organism.
Once the grid is complete, they will cut out the example image and identify the structure(s) and function(s).
BONUS ACTIVITY: To easily turn this into a class project, I have included an additional worksheet to allow student to further research their organism and its adaptations. Enjoy :)

Students (or teacher) can choose an organism to produce a detailed sketch and analysis. After completing the illustration, students will cut out the example image and use the pieces in an activity to identify the organism’s adaptations. (SEE PREVIEW FOR SAMPLE)
Created for 5th grade science: Texas TEKS 5.10A and 5.10B
STUDENT CHOICE & DIFFERENTIATION
This set includes 40 different options for your students to choose from. I have discovered that allowing even the smallest choice drastically improves student output. You can also assign options to students based on skill level, as some organisms will have more obvious adaptations than others.
The choice goes beyond just which project to complete because the students may find different adaptations for each structure highlighted. Lower students should be able to identify the most obvious structures and functions, while accelerated learners will discover things YOU may not have even thought of.
I have not included an answer key for this reason. Each project will have a variety of correct answers, and you can use this to judge student mastery.
Student Worksheets, Teacher Notes, and Blank Graphic Organizer for activity customization, Bonus research worksheet.
