Product Description
For teachers who face challenge of meeting the diverse needs of today's students, "Science Literacy At Work" is a tool that will help them design lessons for learners with variety of learning styles that are standard based, rigorous and address the needs of all learners. Teachers need to be aware of the level of thinking required by the lessons they deliver and products they complete. By using the research of Bloom, Gardner and others whose body of work on learning style supports this thinking and tested in a classroom setting for its effectiveness. The lesson plan inclusive of this workbook supplement raised the state standardized science testing score pertaining to urban schools. The main focus of this workbook is for comprehension, application and analysis combined with kinesthetic, written, visual and linguistic intelligence, to meet differentiated instructional strategy.
This workbook's plan is unique when compared to similar books published in recent years to meet requirement of specific cognitive enhancer tool for students "at risk". The worksheets are designed, based on science reading passages written or taken from teacher recommended resources at or below grade level reading ability of student's grades 7 through 10. The reading passages are guided by appropriate graphic organizers, cloze reading for vocabulary acquisition, and to promote critical thinking skills through writing extended response for content presented in the worksheet. This workbook provides as a "gear it up" tool for designing instruction for beginning teachers. More specifically, this workbook focuses on understanding how instructional manipulations affect changes in the learner's knowledge to meet with grade level performance expectation. Current educational research indicates that learning outcome is improved when appropriate modification is done to engage the community of learners to meaningful activities.
This book's guide line is based on research findings on how to improve science literacy skills to score high on standardized tests by aiming at content vocabularies, to connect students to real world situation and to increase the technical skills needed to compete with the other nations of the world. The activities designed are relevant to their daily life to conceptualize grade appropriate science standards. A unique field tested feature of this workbook it to meet the requirement of National Science Teacher Association to diverse classroom setting by promoting scientific literacy to all.
