A science experiment that explores the density of liquids. A great lesson when learning about solids, liquids and gases.

This experiment demonstrates to the students that different liquids weigh different amounts. In real life students can heft solids but this is harder with liquids because the difference is quite small.

This document gives students space to record their observation and results, with a range of conclusion questions for them to answer after the experiment.

I have also included an extension activity to prove why this occurs. Students use scales to measure the weight of liquids.

Teacher notes in this document outlines how I run this experiment and provides a link to a video that shows 9 liquid layers with solid objects floating between layers. It's very interesting viewing and the students love seeing the video after the experiment.
