This experiment is a fun, engaging, and tasty way for your students to practice the various steps in the scientific method. Each group will be assigned one ingredient that they must “leave out” when mixing up their cupcake batter. The first day they will mix the ingredients, make observations, and predict how leaving out this ingredient might affect the outcome of their cupcakes. The second day students will observe the outcome of their cupcakes using touch, sight, smell and taste. Students will record their observations and make inferences as to what role their missing ingredient has in the process of baking cupcakes.
