This effective science journal is the ultimate tool and template for helping students achieve science fair success. Students are guided step-by-step through the science fair experiment-making process.
Kids in 3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, and 6th grade can use the notebook with guidance. Included is a short teacher guide on how to implement the student science journal. The 17-page student notebook provides the steps needed to end with an awesome science fair board. The process outlined in this guide uses best practices in science and can be a very effective part in teaching kids the scientific method. The journal doesn't take the place of quality teacher or parent instruction but supplements, supports, and organizes tasks related to developing a quality science fair project.
Students complete sixteen notebook sections. The first and last are reflections about the science project. The other fourteen sections involve the actual processes of completing a science fair project as follows:
* Choosing a Topic and Question
* Writing a Bibliography
* Writing a Hypothesis
* Listing Materials
* Listing Procedures for the Experiment
* Writing How to Control Variables
* Collecting Data (The Experiment)
* Taking Photographs
* Making Charts and Graphs
* Writing Results
* Stating a Conclusion
* Writing Practical Applications
* Designing a Science Board
Although the notebook can be used in grade 3, grade 4, grade 5, grade 6, younger or older kids can benefit depending upon their skill level and support. Pages in the packet can be printed either in color or grayscale with good results. These activities are effective for homeschool or summer programs.
"This is by far the best break down of a science fair project I have ever used. I have been steadily signing off on each section and the students are practicing the skill of doing a large project in small doable goals. We often tell them to do that, but this packet shows them how to do it. Thank you!"
"I absolutely love this!! It has kept my students on track and made the process of creating and displaying a project fun and easy!!"
"Thanks for breaking the science fair down so nicely! Made it much more manageable."
