This product is intended to be used as an extension activity after reading a science fiction text. I used it with my 8th grade language arts class after we read H.G. Wells' "The Time Machine." This product can be used simply as a writing prompt as well. Students are asked to envision what certain aspects of daily life will be like in 50 years, such as transportation, communication, health, and entertainment.
Included are 7 different writing prompts and a scoring rubric.
I differentiated by allowing my 8th graders to choose the writing prompt that interested them most, but you could also assign specific prompts to the entire class.
This extension activity helps students to think critically and creatively. I used this at the end of the year with my students and it kept them entertained and engaged! I was really impressed with their creativity and their ideas.
I appreciate your comments!
