Project usually implies "make or create" an end product. However, "project" in this listing means the teacher prints, copies, and staples pages together and students read, notate, and analyze a science-fiction book of your/their choice! That's ALL! Designed for multiple-uses, multi-use (whole class/small group/individuals). See my Facebook page, Reading Response Creations, for comments, tips for use, & a filled-in sample!!
Students will read ANY science-fiction story of ANY length. They will finish sentence starters that cause reflection on the point of view and author's purpose, take notes on the literary elements (setting/character/plot/resolution), and quote the text evidence. They will also make check-marks helping them to analyze the text structure/organization of their book. Finally, they will note the scientific and/or futuristic elements they found. The end goal being they WILL understand and will be able to classify/identify this genre from that day FORWARD!
Flexible use options:
-use pages separately or collectively
-use for book talks or presentations or book reports
-use for whole class novel/book studies/book clubs/lit. circles
-use as an independent reading project
-use as documents in silent reading centers/stations or during SSR/DEAR
-use to supplement ANY reading program
-use to supplement short-stories from teacher-purchased books or on-line resources
Get students thinking about the future!
