Are you looking for a fun and engaging way to tie Science and the holiday season together? Well, your search may be over. I am sharing with you an activity that I use with my classroom during the month of December.
In this file, you will find nine different tasks that your students can complete that relate the the season. You can implement the activities in a variety of ways. Here are some ways you may use this in your classroom:
Assign a box a day and allow the students to work on them independently or in small groups.
Use an activity during that crazy week right before the break as a way to provide instruction in an engaging way.
Send the activities home for the holiday break as a “Holiday Challenge”. Offer those that complete the challenge extra credit, a homework pass, or another small incentive. Either assign the whole board or allow students to use so many tasks.
I have included the sheets that your students will need to complete each task, as well as a checklist and a list of Science vocabulary words that the students could use to prove their understanding. If you are trying to save paper, you could just copy the Holiday Challenge and the checklist. Students could complete the activities on notebook paper or in a journal.
The possibilities of how you could use the Science Holiday Challenge is really limitless. If you come up with a clever idea, please leave feedback and share so that others can see how you used the file in the classroom.
I hope that your students love this as much as my students do. They are learning and don’t even realize it.
Have a wonderful holiday season!
