Interactive notebooks are the perfect way to introduce science themes into a primary classroom. They are a HUGE timesaver for my classroom. I use them to incorporate writing and science themes all in one. My kids are able to refer back during each unit to use the information we've been learning.

They use their science notebooks a lot during our writer's workshop to get new vocabulary and to get newly learned facts. A huge bonus is that they also refer back to pages they've added AFTER we are finished with a unit.
