This is an expandable guide about the basics of Elements, Compounds, and Mixtures!
This is the upgraded version of the Ultimate Element Study Guide
that I also have in my store. The old guide is more or less for note-taking, while my new guide requires the student to do some research, classification, interaction, and answer questions about the topics.
Using two sheets of legal paper (8.5x14in) this foldable will fold up to fit onto a single page
in a composition notebook. Compact and easy to use!
Here's a run down of what this foldable has to offer:
...The left side of the guide requires students to answer some of the basic knowledge questions about elements.
...When it is opened up, students will see three blank periodic tables - they must color in the correct areas to represent Metals, Nonmetals and Metalloids.
...Along with needed to know the placement of element types, students must research and write the element types' properties, subgroups, and uses.
...On the outside of the right, students must answer questions about compounds. Fold it in, and there are examples of chemical formulas. Questions must be answers for understanding. There are also practice formulas to decipher.
...When the right side is folded out, students will see questions about mixtures. There is also a practice that requires the students to use shapes and colors to represent elements. Those elements must be put together to make compounds, and then different mixtures.
Students can fill in this guide by researching on their own, using their text book, or through your own lesson. I sell a PERIODIC TABLE POWERPOINT
that will cover some of what is needed for this foldable.

The best approach that I've used to complete this activity:
Each topic...ELEMENTS... COMPOUNDS... MIXTURES... takes two to three days each to introduce and practice understanding with other activities. So, what I do is staple these UNCUT pages together - then, throughout the week... maybe a week and a half, students work on this gradually. At the end of the period, they turn it in (with their names on it). The next day, I pass it back to the owner. This continues until it is complete. THEN and only then, do the students cut it out, fold it up, and glue it into their journals. After that, it serves as a study guide!
