This is an expandable guide about the Rock Cycle and the different types of rock and how they are identified and classified!
This is the 2.0 version of my rock cycle activity... the more basic one is here: Original Rock Cycle Activity
Using two sheets of legal paper (8.5x14in) this foldable will fold up to fit onto a single page in a composition notebook. Compact and easy to use, this foldable will display the rock cycle on the front
... students will be able to color the arrows that represent the processes. The foldable has many sections that shows image examples of all forms of rocks and their sub-classifications.
The main opening section includes:
-Sections are provided to define the many processes of the rock cycle and rock types in general.
Other sections include:
-For Igneous: Extrusive and Intrusive
-For Sedimentary: Clastic, Chemical, and Biochemical
-For Metamorphic: Foliated and Non-foliated
-One section for research and understanding why viscosity of molten rock plays a role in rock formation.
-Another section for research and understanding how sediment is formed and how sediment shape and size can explain environmental factors.
Another added bonus of this foldable is the ROCK RESOURCES WEBSITES
that are provided. Students can use these many websites for their research. If you don't prefer them to research on their own, then they can use their text book or even your own lesson. I sell a ROCK CYCLE POWERPOINT
that will cover much of what is needed for this foldable.

The best approach that I've used to complete this activity:
Each topic...the CYCLE... METAMORPHIC... SEDIMENTARY... IGNEOUS... takes two to three days each to introduce and practice understanding with other activities. So, what I do is staple these UNCUT pages together - then, throughout the week... maybe a week and a half, students work on this gradually. At the end of the period, they turn it in (with their names on it). The next day, I pass it back to the owner. This continues until it is complete. THEN and only then, do the students cut it out, fold it up, and glue it into their journals. After that, it serves as a study guide!
