This science journal is a great nonfiction text resource. It can be difficult to find nonfiction text for the lower primary grades and this write-in book integrates science, reading, writing, and art by allowing the students to write and draw in the book while also reading nonfiction text. This 22 page book comes with eight pages of easy reader informational text on eagle, pelican, duck, and hummingbird beaks. It goes into detail about the features and functions of each type of beak. You can use the text as a guided reading lesson with students doing the comprehension activity at the end of each section. After going through the reading and comprehension sections of the journal, there are compare/contrast activities and a quizlet.
This bundle also comes with detailed lesson plans on how to use this bundle to integrate the STEAM subjects with additional art and technology lesson plans!
This book is part of a large STEAM unit on features and functions leading up to the NGSS standard: 1-LS1-1. Use materials to design a solution to a human problem by mimicking how plants and/or animals use their external
