Description

This is a set of 4 journals for primary grade students to record their observations during science units. The 4 journals are life cycles: plant, butterfly, ladybug; and weather.

Each journal is formatted the same so it's simple to explain the procedures. Each page has space for the date, writing, and a picture. The journal pdfs have two journals per page, so all you need to do is cut down the middle and staple it. You can also reproduce additional recording pages and add them to the set. The recorded observations are specific to the journal and more information is below.

There is also a scaffolded set of writing pages provided for each journal. You can use the scaffolded pages to differentiate for your students' abilities by giving different students different pages. Or, you can walk students through each set of pages until they're able to write their summary in paragraph form.

The plant journal has 10 pages for students to record the a plant's growth each day. Each page has space for the date, the growth, a sentence, and a picture. There is a US version for recording in inches and a metric version for recording in centimeters (cm).

The butterfly and ladybug journals have 10 pages for students to record what the insect looks like and what life cycle stage it is in.

The weather journal has 10 pages for students to record the current weather.
