The “Gingerbread Man Science” Unit is based on the classic story of "The Gingerbread Man." The activities in this packet will help the children answer the question “How can the Gingerbread Man safely cross the river?” This packet supports the Next Generation Science Standard K-T-ETS1.
The “Science Kids” series of packets is intended to help teachers implement developmentally appropriate, hands-on science activities for children in Preschool, Kindergarten and the early grades. The activities in these packets are based on the scientific method and encourage inquiry-based learning.
As they work to help the Gingerbread Man cross the river, students will explore the following concepts (and more!):
• Bridge Construction
• Properties of Waterproof and Non-waterproof Materials
The students will also work with non-standard units of measure and practice general problem-solving skills.
For their final project in this Unit, the children will design their own invention which will help the Gingerbread Man cross the river without getting wet.
