In analyzing the data of my school's NYS Science Exam, it was evident that many of the students, especially our English Language Learners (or ELLS), lack the prerequisite vocabulary needed to understand much of the content.
I created these vocabulary cards to help our students (and hopefully yours) better understand the language of the science content. The cards are technically specific to the New York Grade 4 Scope and Sequence and NYS Science exam. However, in New York, students in Grade 5 will be taking the exam next year, and these cards can support linguistic development and enhance prerequisite knowledge in preparation for the 5th grade content. SO much of the language overlaps with third, fourth and fifth grade concepts, so this can also be adapted to the third grade curriculum as well!
