This is an awesome science lesson for young elementary students to help them gain a deep understanding of a habitats, specifically for birds and how their habitat helps them survive. This lesson plan walks you step-by-step through the entire lesson, giving ideas for follow up activities, schema development, and differentiation ideas for ELLs, students with learning disabilities, and high ability students. It also provides you with a copy of the worksheet at the end for your class's use! The book to be used with it is listed in the plan and is optional for this lesson. This lesson plan includes a pre-teaching reading component as well as a post-teaching literacy center activity idea, both are optional but absolutely enhance the learning of the students by making this a multidisciplinary lesson.
This is part 2 of a full unit plan on Birds and Their Habitats, but can be used and adapted as needed to fit whatever unit you need it for. Enjoy!
