Product Description
Students often fail to make the connection between the science they learn in the classroom, and how it is be applied in the real world. This "Article of the Week" series follows Dave Stuarts's format and is designed to bridge that gap using real articles from reliable sources.

The assignment asks students to perform a close reading, annotations, and to use evidence from the article to support a claim. It also asks students to reflect - giving them a chance to interject their own thoughts and opinions.

This particular article can be used when discussing mitosis and stem cells. It explains what cells are being renewed and why, and asks students to think about the ethical challenges as well. Students are really interested in this article and are able to link it to (the otherwise "boring" topic) mitosis. I was able to circle around to this topic many times during my lessons. Enjoy!
