# Science Maze - H-R (Herztsprung-Russell) Diagram - 8th Grade Science

This is a worksheet meant to help kids understand how to use the H-R Diagram when identifying star types.

TEK 8.8A Describe components of the universe, including stars, nebulae, and
galaxies, and use models such as the Herztsprung-Russell diagram
for classification.

Starting at the U.F.O., the students will use the provided H-R Diagram, to find the answer to the clues that are found in each asteroid. Each clue gives the color, luminosity and temperature of a star. Using the diagram they will determine whether the star is a white dwarf, main sequence, giant or supergiant. Once they have an answer they will follow the arrow with the correct star type to the next asteroid, where they will find their next clue. The students can color in the arrows and asteroids as they complete the worksheet or simply draw a line that follows the correct path. They will continue this until they reach Earth where they will then be able to use their advance technologies to take over the planet.

Optional: For any clue not used, you can have the students identify them on the back of the worksheet for bonus points to be used at your leisure. (Missing assignments, test, projects or other types of assessments)._

Not all of the asteroids are used (or are they?) in the maze to prevent students from just guessing the route.

An answer key is included to help with grading. You must use the provided H-R Diagram to find the answers to the worksheet.
