This Middle School Science Bundle is a collection of 4 complete units that teach students various topics associated with the Next Generation Science Standards.

We have created and used all of these lessons in our own classroom and designed the lessons so teachers can quickly implement the resources into their own classes with ease and convenience.

Environmental Engineering - Problem Based Learning Unit for Middle School


This Problem-Based Learning Unit will motivate students to learn about oil because they will be able to work at their own pace, choose areas that interest them and apply their learning in a real-world situation.

Along the way they will learn to think critically, solve problems and collaborate with their peers. This is about a 3 week unit. Teachers will provide students with a "hook" to the problem based learning unit, help generate driving questions and provide students with an overview of stations they can complete to help keep them focused and gain prior knowledge on the topic.


Included in this unit:
• Aligned to Next Generation Science Standards
• Detailed Lesson Plan
• Multiple ideas for how to "hook" students (PowerPoint, video links, articles, etc.
• 6 stations (2 STEM challenges, history of oil, density lesson, oil spills, environmental engineer info-graphic)
• Handout for students to choose from 3 different culminating projects (children's book, presentation or movie)
• Rubrics for each project are included
• Pictures to post and handout for all stations are included
• Rubrics, article and project assignment sheets are in Microsoft Word format to allow for teacher to edit based on student needs.
• Real-world component could allow students reading their book to elementary students in person or through Skype, presentation as an engineer to teachers, movie shown to various science classes.

Physics Unit
This unit is everything you need to help your students understand physics and Newton's 3 Laws of Motion. Most activities allow for modification to help you meet you students needs and adjust to your teaching style.

Science - Physics and Newton's Laws Unit for Middle School includes:

The goal of this project is for students to choose a specific renewable energy resource and develop some sort of presentation that conveys the background, uses, benefits, negatives, and future impact of using that energy source in the US.

Renewable Energy Project for Middle School

This project can last anywhere from 5-8 days depending on the students and the amount of time allocated to the project during class time.

This is a great way for students to study an energy source in depth and really learn the ins and outs of a renewable energy source.

These design challenges will help expose your students to the Engineering Design Process in a hands-on and engaging manner. Students will learn about the steps and stages of the Engineering Design Process and will be able to identify and determine the aspects of each stage within a given problem. Students will learn to identify a problem with constraints and limitations, brainstorm solutions, develop a plan, implement the plan, and then evaluate on ways to improve their solution.

The steps of the Engineering Design Process are presented as following:

-Create
-Modify

Each challenge includes:
-A student worksheet
-Options for a teacher to extend the challenge or connect it to a real world scenario.
-A math project to help reinforce the concept of diameter (use with the Frisbee Challenge)

This unit is aligned with Common Core Math and Next Generation Science Standards. Beyond basic STEM Concepts and the Engineering Design Process, this unit teaches students about some of the basic components of building structures such as the utilization of self-reinforcing geometric shapes like triangles, rectangles and diameter.
