This is a two-page, printable reading activity about the planet Uranus. The first page is a short (approximately 450-word) informational text about Uranus. The second page is a crossword covering content and vocabulary which is highlighted in bold within the text.
The focus of the text is the planet's discovery. It's a pretty amazing story about a brother and sister team of hobbyist astronomers who become international celebrities overnight after identifying the planet. Caroline Herschel in particular is an inspiring figure. She was truly a pioneer for women in science.
The crossword has eight clues total, for example:
Clue: The imaginary line that runs through the center of a planet at its poles.
Clue: William Herschel discovered the planet Uranus with a _____ that he built himself.
Clue: A possible explanation.
